Day 21: Vobbling around in Wisby

strange - but I think the old centre of Visby, spells itself as Wisby....  anyhoo hopefully that explains the silly title - but I need coffee.....

so I had all day to potter around in Visby.  It is a fascinating old old town, built on the side of a cliff, so cobblestreets so narrow that a car can just squeeze down - but bikes and pedestrians can go anywhere, as long as one is careful - slipping downhill on cobblestones and brakes all locked up adds a little excitement to one's day!

but first a quick pedal out to take a photo of Pippi Longstocking's house that was used in the movies - its now part of an amusement centre - that thankfully wasn't open, but the kind girls in the shop let me go in and just take some quick photos....  I was going to make a scene if they didn't!!  :)

then back to the old town - btw - I did end up paying $30 for breakfast as there was nothing else open - and the shops really didn't open until 11am...  strange.... but it is early in the season!

just spent the day tootling around - found a big big church of course - but this one had lovely stained glass in it...

eventually, it was time to go and collect my panniers from the lockers at the ferry terminal and join the queue.  one thing good about a bike, is that they want you on board first, so past the line of waiting cars and trucks I sail, straight into the gaping hull and lean Maggie up against the side, tie her down a bit and away I go upstairs to the lounge area.  Maggie's used to ferry rides - has been on so many, has Maggie!!

and then back to the mainland of Sweden - found my bed tonight (thanks again Em!!) and crashed!

And the sunshine and blue skies are back again - as I check out
the streets of Visby looking for a breakfast cafe....  fail!

Think this is the ruins of St Catherines church, it was right next to the square

Pippi Longstocking's home as shown in the movies...

Sections of the walls around Wisby

Lunch - dang now no room left for crepes!

looking over the edge of a cliff and the wide angle lens
gives the feel of a doll sized church, but trust me,
its big!

this is actually a two-way road, one side has to give
way to the other - and they seem to be most patient!

more ruined churches - there seems to be quite a few around here
