Idre Kirke just outside the window - clock chimes the hour and one dong for 1/2 past....... |

but Oh Dear! the beginning of the road out to the Falls! maybe there will be porridge for breakfast! |
another warm and sunny day in Sweden now. the clouds and thunderstorms from yesterday have all disappeared and the morning air is cool. We head out of Idre along Route 70 which is a bit busy with Saturday morning traffic rushing off to their summer cottages for the weekend - maybe.
The road undulates along, with big lakes and rushing rivers alongside it. Its only a short ride today - about 55km to the Fulufjallet National Park. Got to the turnoff in plenty of time and thought well, its only another 20km or so, should be easy peasy!! yeah! famous last words.
its started out OK and then the climbing began. not earth-shattering steep but just up! once the speed drops to about 7kph I can really feel the weight of the panniers trying to drag me back downhill. well - thinks I - at least it will be a nice long downhill on Monday when I ride out this way. Just then the up turns to down.... oh no!!! its hard to enjoy a downhill, when you know you have to come up it again. and it seemed to go on for Ages!! and then slow grind up again.... and then down into Morkett where the Fulufjallgarden cabins and rooms where I am staying shows up.... phew!!! cos, just ahead there is a very steep rise and I know I can't make that....
so thankfully, I turned into the driveway and while I was waiting for the room to be finished cleaning, I cooled down in the lounge area and munched on an Almond Magnum.... hmmm..... this is getting to be a bit too much of a habit.... shall have to work on that again when I get home :)
I went for a little cycle back to the river and sat and munched on an apple and have now come back to the room, showered and ready to check my photos as usual...
hope to get some up, just to keep you all very happy :)
Tomorrow I hope to ride out to the falls - its a 6km ride with plenty of hills I bet, then a 5km walk and some lunch then ride back here again. I have booked 2 nights here and its very pleasant and very Swedish! outside me window I can hear a tinkling brook and although it is 7pm the sun is now shining quite strongly on the birch trees just outside my window... yep this too, is a beautiful country
when I have downloaded the gps track - I will post the link, but I don't think it will be that impressive, tho my legs would disagree! - http://www.a-trip.com/tracks/view/155783 - well, it does look like that first climb was the longest so on Monday, Granny will defo be going woohoo down that last hill!
Love the troll and web - and the scenery of course.
ReplyDeleteHere's a neat way to get Swedish letters. Hold down Alt and type in the 4-digit numbers on the keypad. For some reason it only works on the keypad and not the numbers above the QWERTY... letters.
ReplyDeleteä = Alt+0228
å = Alt+0229
ö = Alt+0246
Ä = Alt+0196
Å = Alt+0197
Ö = Alt+0214
