checking out Oslo

gotta pack everything into my panniers tonight - Maggie has been freed from her box and we went for a loopedy loop around town - being lost most of the day - but finding the PO, Railway Station and Sculpture park - only one tapestry in some museum yet to be found!

http://www.a-trip.com/tracks/view/155390  -  check out this link if you want to get an idea of what I am like on my own!!!  Failed!  almost, but found my way back home......

am leaving town at 14:00 for Trondheim tomorrow - arriving there at 20:00 - will still be light then of course.

so here's some pics for today - now with captions!!!!!

wish me luck with my packing, cos I am gunna need all I can get!

thanks!

OK - better get some words happening before the comment by Travelling Wildeheart gets out into WWW and peeps start thinking there's some erotica on my blog!!!!

flying over the Swedish archipelago - lots of islands!
Welcome to Oslo - thunderstorm and heavy rain on Thurs night - hmmm....  weather change indeed

Impressive tiger sculpture outside Oslo central railway station

Oslo Domkirke

Interesting pagan symbol attached to corner of Oslo Domkirke

Lovely sculpture of Mother & children - much nicer than generals on horseback!
Outside Oslo City hall - in a park with other gentle family sculptures

Interesting building found along the trail

The Royal Palace - yep with horseman

Palace Guard with fluffy black tassel on his helmet that totally obscures his vision
Obviously not expecting any attacks from his right!

Riding thru Snobsville, its a wonder they let me pass :)

Ultimate colour scheme - black car and on the balcony, matching pink and white geraniums in window box
possible famous ice skater from Norway - but love the lightness of this sculpture
OK - so here are some of the pics I took at the sculpture park in Oslo - no!!!  they are not erotica, but capture all the human emotions - which does include love!!! and anger - in hundreds of different sculptures.

swimming pool for black-backed seagulls

Yes - Maggie and me agree that the central 14m sculpture is a tad phallic - well the designer was a man....
But generally, the sculptures are truly not erotica - they really do capture human life and there were some angry ones in amongst the carefree, light-hearted and loving ones. biggest problem is to get photos without someone posing or climbing up over the sculptures - weekends in this weather, I imagine it will be packed!
I was a tad nervous with those black clouds looming every closer and knowing that I had to find my way back to the hotel.  After last night's close-by thunderstorm, I didn't want to be out in this one - but it faded away and was never seen or heard!

yep!  letting one's hair down and dancing - nice!

  2. Lovely pics - already a world away from rural Russia. The buildings are more aesthetic and don't have that vibe of neglect and dejection. Call me crazy, but that is the sense I get from the photos.

The water squiggles in the fountain photo are particularly arty - gorgeous photo.

    1. I do call you crazy!!! but in this instance you are so right! everything is well maintained and one doesn't feel that it could all come tumbling down. but then Norway is a very rich country - no struggle street here - tho I have seen some drunks - maybe homeless, some beggars and also this end of town seems to populated with a lot of migrants from Africa and Middle East. At least some countries are pulling their weight in the refugee stakes - unlike Australia!!! Oops! no more political statements!

  3. ... okay, my 'naughty radar' must have been disengaged. But are those last few photos of public sculptures as phallic and as ' "friendly" ' as they appear? From the piccies here, they appear to be illustrating Kama Sutra II ...
