I was up early and eager to get on my way. This little town of Yeongpung had nothing going for it. Sad really, but I think it served its rural population as best it could. The big city of Sejong wasn't far away, so I think it had left this small town behind.
So I did too! It felt a little weird, just easily rolling along, the path looked flat, but it was actually down hill. So Hennie was almost in top gear as we easily rolled along the bike way. The further south I go, the less amenities there are - that is, no water stations or toilets...
But now on the Oncheon Trail, that promised blue line is prominent and kept me totally on track the whole day. There were a couple of times when the signs seem to suggest another option, I ignored them all and stuck with that beautiful blue line - and it never failed me throughout the whole day! so thankful!
It was an easy roll into Goesan, but I knew the trail would jerk up and I expected a bit of a grind. But apart from it being a slight grind, where there isn't time to cruise, I was a little bit surprised when I got to what appeared to be the top of the climb. A steep downhill was ahead, with no more rises in view! Yay! Hennie is so stable on a downhill and we clocked up a 46kph high - maybe that doesn't sound much, but on a path littered with sandy patches and rocks, I think we did pretty good!
Ahead, in the town of Juengyeong, I hoped I would find a bike shop to buy a new tube - just in case!! and a motel/hotel for the night. Maps.Me has been kind to me and just in from the bike way, it said there was a bike shop, and sure enough there was! and with a bit of muttering from the owner, he found a tube that was just right, gave Hennie's chain a bit of oil, checked the tyres and sent me on my way.
almost next door was a daggy looking motel, so I signed in there for the night - 35,000kw ($40). No worries. after a shower, I went for a stroll downtown. I was hoping to find an electrical shop to buy a power plug that had slightly thicker points. It seems that in some of these older places, the thinner plugs dont connect. I couldn't believe my luck when I spotted a small electrical shop and found exactly what I was looking for.
Then I saw a pizza shop, so bought a sweet potato pizza - a bit disappointing as it was so bland, should have gone with the mushroom or gorgonzola pizza! but vego it was, so no complaints please!
it had been another grand cycling day, gentle riverside views, lots of farmlands, crops looking like they're about to burst with all their new growth. There are rice paddies as well as tall corn crops, lots of chilli plants, plus a whole variety of greens I have no clue what they were. I think one tall plant was the really large daikon radish. They certainly know how to grow vegetables here, tho there does seem to be guys walking around the crops with spray cans on their backs.
I'm really enjoying just pottering along, stopping for photos or a quick snack. Cruising along, so cool - though the mid day temps are up in the low 30's.
here's some pics from today!
